Review:

The Weight are not trying to be subtle in the name of their band. They’re named after the song “The Weight” by The Band…The End…and I’m The Stoked about The Music. Originally forming to backup singer songwriter Joe Firstman, they’ve recently ventured out on their own to create a brand of rock all unique in today’s climate. With vocals and story-lines reminiscent of Ben Folds with a little more pitch control, they create music that brings to mind Billy Joel and Keane, yet quickly kicks those influences out of your dome with their SoCal songwriting, poignant musicianship, and tight harmonies. Their music brings up feelings of being in The Last Waltz yet still, somehow, being grounded in today. Check out the Folds influenced “Breakdown,” the Wonder Years soundtrack worthy song “Sweeter,” or the driving Keane-esque “Still.” It’s not too heavy & it’s not too light. It’s just good.
