Makin’ old school new school is an all too ubiquitous trend. We overpay for used jeans and t-shirts with pit stains already in place. We make vinyl relevant again. We buy new cars that look like old cars. The problem is the new old is usually just a sad imitation of the old old. And unfortunately the same usually holds true in music. Enter Chris Pierce. It’s rare that an old school sound can be completely original, and Chris somehow pulls it off. With a voice that can sound natural in a scream or intimate whisper and songs that immediately stir you, Chris takes Otis Redding and Bill Withers and gives them a place in music today. Listen to “All That Matter Is Now” and “Change Yourself” and finally hear some good old school new school.
