Review:

If one reads enough music reviews, especially of the ‘indie’ flavor, one will find the words ‘raw’ and ‘real’ thrown around quite often. Usually these words are just synonymous for poor production and out of tune instrumentation. It usually means that an artist is supposedly rebelling against the polished state of pop music by deliberately sucking, or at least reveling in their suckedness. This being said I hesitate to use those words when describing Ian Moore. When it comes to being raw though, Ian is that in the best sense of the word. His latest release To Be Loved is an exquisitely written and produced album of the highest quality, yet you know it’s Ian being Ian, to hell with what people think. Fortunately, this person thinks it’s one of the best albums to come out of ‘07. Listening to To Be Loved is like listening to a more rootsy Pink Floyd. In almost each and every song there is motion and fluidity. Nothing is static. Nothing is status quo. The perfect example of this is the title track to the album, a dream sequence of ethereal ambience mixed with aggressive 4/4 rock. There is no pretense here, just a man taking a musical journey that you’ll want to be on.
