Review:
I really feel like buying a pair of pants right now. Something about the rushed groove, electronic clinkie-dink-dinks, and over Melodyned vocals (which are so hot right now…thanks Kanye), that makes me want to sprint to the nearest Express, Forever 21, or Hot Topic and start trying on every hipster-on-the-cheap outer garment I can find. No doubt the production on Stavros’ OCD is infectious and fun, the melodies do move you, but the lyricism kind of leaves you scratching your head and wondering: “Do I really want to buy these exact pants right now?” I’m just not sold on Stavros’ lyrics. I don’t think he believes in what he’s singing; his melodies are strong, but his words are an after-thought. But hey, maybe I should turn down my hearing aid and get with it; maybe it’s not so vital to really care about great lyricism; maybe shopping really is what modern music is all about. I promise you the table of Hannah Montana Fanamontania girls sitting next to me here at the mall (yep…that’s where I am…go figure) don’t give a rip about what’s really being sung over the club grooves sending them to the cash wrap. To be sure, Gap’s end of the week financial reports don’t either. So, if Stavros’ end goal is to explode on the mall scene, he’s absolutely working in the right direction. Keep it strong bro! You are doing wonders for my closet and funky t-shirt drawer. If you keep arranging and writing songs like the ones on OCD and pumping them directly into your closest shopping outlet, your song “I Need Money” (which happens to be my favorite of yours) will no longer apply.
Now, which way to Forever 21?
