Review:

Andrew Jed. This guy is an enigma wrapped in a mystery dipped in salt water taffy. I usually reserve my reviews for artists who I’m a hundred percent sold on, and Andrew isn’t one of them, but his music is itchy. Itchy like a shower that’s just a bit too hot, or a beard left on the chin a little too long; you just notice it.
I’ve been listening to Jed’s music for a while now, and I still notice it. Here’s the thing- Andrew and his Jeds are emotional. Both in performance and writing- even the peppy tunes are still emotive; the kind of emoting that really requires you to pay attention, or turn it off. He’s clever: “You’re a Sunday morning, and I am just a Saturday night / but oh when it’s right, it’s right…” I can only assume he wrote that about his wife. As a band, the Jeds are stellar. Their musicianship and ensemble are striking. Their performances are lively, even intense at times.
I’m so mixed about this guy: I feel like so many of his choices are odd, but so much of his music is right… Just give him a listen and decide for yourself. You might thank me for it… or not.
