Tune in @ Tunejar!
I’m just returning from my first trip to Japan in 12 years. The gigs went well, the people were painstakingly accommodating and the food was great! I visited three cities in 10 days and had a chance to remind myself of everything I had enjoyed about Japanese culture. I enjoyed the art and architecture, art and of course the leading edge technological advances. Since my last visit, the country has become decidedly “westernized” which sent up a big red flag for me. I hope the Japanese youth will retain more of their culture in of terms of dress and demeanor. At any rate, I was also struck by the fact that although Japan has such a rich culture in terms of art and music in particular, the Japanese people also have a wide ranging appreciation for American music.. Our brands of pop, R&B, gospel and of course, jazz are quite popular. I was impressed to learn that many acts whose careers have seen better days here in America, have thriving careers and growing audiences in Japan. It occurred to me that we have the same opportunity and access to different genres of music not only in this country, but also on this website! There are a growing number of people learning about this site and a growing number of artists submitting their music. So tune in, enjoy what’s familiar, but also take a chance and listen to something that’s outside of your normal musical “box”. You just might find that the country twang isn’t so “country” after all!
