State of recording music for films, Television, commercials and records

Times are moving faster then we can all even keep track of. Here in LA (supposedly the recording center of the world), recording music for films, TV, commercials and records has undergone huge changes as far as how projects get recorded from the beginning to the end. There is still a vast amount of work that originates in LA, and now it seems that the speed to which these projects get finished is of even greater importance. Whether it be any of the mediums mentioned above, the producers of the projects always need your services yesterday. Deadlines have always been deadlines, but now there are ways available that enable recordings to get finished at even faster paces. Gone are the days where you HAD to always assemble a group of musicians in a studio like Capitol records to record a whole album in one sitting. Now, it takes months to finish a CD project for one artist. I have managed it all - from 66 piece orchestras for Video games to horn sections for the PussyCat Dolls and Christina Aguilera. For NON original artist CD projects, speed seems to be everything and remote recording sessions seem to be the way its going. With all the available technology and high speed internet available to everyone in the recording business today, “phoning it in” has become a reality.
