‘So Voltaire,’ you ask, ‘how the hell can we get seen and heard?’ Hey, boobs, beer and the words “hot” and “sex” always seem to work.

The Brazilian act Cansei De Ser Sexy (CSS) tagged their youTube video with the words ‘hot’ and ’sex’ which are popular search terms on the video site. The results drove 40 million extra hits…in just a month. According to the Times of London:

“…the three-minute clip, which features the track Music Is My Hot Hot Sex, had had 40 million views, but over the course of a single month it attracted 40 million more - taking it past the clip that was until then the most popular - Evolution of Dance - which has been seen 79 million times.”

See, sex still sells. And it sells big. So keep on remembering that you are in the music business which is part of the entertainment business. You got to keep the customer satisfied or you’ll be playing gigs at your corner tavern well into middle age.

So the next time you think about your site’s meta tags or how you tag an entry on MySpace or youTube, remember that tags do make a difference.
